Columns are used for processes requiring the fullest possible contact between the products treated with liquid and gas or with steam.

These include such diffusion processes as absorption, desorption, rectification, as well as cooling and humidifying of industrial gases, wet gas cleaning, etc. They are quite common in the petrochemical industry.

Columns are designed for heat and mass transfer (rectification, absorption, desorption) at temperatures above -40°C and below +200°C, under excess pressure, without pressure or under vacuum.
The devices are installed indoors or in an open area with an average temperature of the coldest five-day period down to -45°C, seismicity level up to 6. Columns are manufactured on support legs (according to GOST 26296-84) for installation on floors, as well as on cylindrical or conical supports ATK 24.200.04-90 — as determined by the customer. For fine separation (precise rectification), columns equipped with trays (cap, sieve, sieve-valve, grid, louvered, etc.) are used, designed for uniform distribution of liquid. Columns with packing are mainly used for distillation of highly aggressive or viscous products not requiring fine separation, as well as in absorption processes with large specific heaters for the liquid. Columns with dumped packing are equipped with general purpose packings: acid-resistant, ceramic, semi-porcelain and porcelain, in accordance with GOST 17612-83. The tray and packing types are determined by the customer depending on the process, pressure and temperature, the ratio of gas and liquid loads, requirements to the product purity, polymerization tendency, etc.
